If you are looking at moving into becoming a travel agent then one thing that you will need to concentrate on is your destination training. It is no good trying to sell someone a holiday if you don’t know the difference between Paris and Peru.

Everyone seems to assume that becoming a travel agent is an easy job. All you have to do is sit behind a desk and wait for people to come in asking about holidays to a certain location. If that is what you think then you can’t be further from the truth.

If you haven’t got a basic grasp on where every country is then you will quickly become the laughing stock of the office. That is why destination training and a basic grasp of geography is so essential when selling holidays.

Another reason it is so essential for you to know where all these locations are based is because sometimes there is more than one place with the same name. For Instance is you were looking for Ipswich, there is an Ipswich in Suffolk, England and another one in Australia.

So where do you obtain destination training from? Well you could check out the internet for the source of an answer to your question. The internet is a wealth of knowledge when you want to find out some information about anything and simply by searching in Google you should be able to find out a whole host of information about whatever place you need.

If this doesn’t seem like your way of learning and you want to improve your knowledge of the subject though you will have to go through a proper destination training package. There are a number of companies that supply development packages to students or companies that wish to train their employees.

By simple going into Google and entering ‘destination training’ into the search facility you will be presented with a number companies that offer competitive rates for training programs. Obviously you need to put in the required effort to learn the required material; however I’ve found that it is always easier to learn about things when you are interested in the subject.

So there you have it, being a travel agent isn’t as easy as you may have first thought, there is a lot more to learn than you might first think.
